Scribble Project - Final Drawing
Black ball point pen on 22 x 26 inch poster paper.
“Two-Faced”
For this drawing I wanted to play on different interpretations of the concept of being “two-faced”, so this drawing could be seen in the context of emotion, personality, putting on a false front, or a literal Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde representation. However for my own personal inspiration it is more emotion based, I wanted to create a visual depiction of two strongly juxtaposed negative and positive emotions emerging from this sort of centre (the dark orb in the middle). Looking like there are trying to meld and balance with each other but wont mix and become to strong separate entities (emotions). As for the technicality of it I really wanted to play around with loose scribble line, I saw this assignment as an opportunity for very free line work rather then precision - however just scribbling tighter and tighter and going over areas where I wanted to emphasize certain features and detail. In relation to the idea that I was going off of I wanted to allow my own personal emotions and feelings to somewhat take control almost in a therapeutic way allowing very rough, angry and “careless” scribbling as a relevant part of the piece creating the dark areas as the light heavy dark to light gradient from the hair to the ends of the page. This piece took quite a long time as for the sheer amount of pen ink used through repetitive line work and creating progressively dark tones by layering but overall I really enjoyed this project because it allowed so much creative freedom and I really got the chance to kind of just let my hands and feelings have a whole mind of their own.
