Large Contour Drawing
Fine line permanent marker on 20 x 26 Mayfair paper
*Mayfair paper chosen due to choice of drawing material (permanent marker) so I wasn’t concerned about any smudging on the paper.
A collection of “beauty” products and associated items.
First I began by taping down the paper onto my desk, which luckily was just big enough for it. Then I began drawing what I considered to be a good base/symmetry item, my makeup mirror. I used a ruler to measure out the paper to place it in the exact middle and began drawing.
Then I started to draw in the other items that I had picked out to be in the piece. I didn’t have a plan for the order or placement, I just drew them in as I went along where they felt right and looked like the fit the best. This took some time erasing and replacing but eventually I had drawn all the items out in the places and sizes I was happy with.
After finishing all the drawings I began outlining which was soooo stressful at first. I actually avoided the outlining for a while because I was so nervous to mess the whole thing up but it went better then I was worried about! The tricky parts were the super long curves with no breaks so if you make a mistake there’s no way to hide it but I managed to complete most the line work pretty smooth, I just went at a good pace using a “slow (enough) and steady” method. There were of course some tiny line errors but overall I am really happy with this piece and the visual outcome.
