Butterfly Drawing

 

    8.5 x 11 Sketchbook page - Pen and marker

For this drawing I was attempting to move past some artist block, and draw what ever my mind decided should go on the page. The butterfly I had a lot of fun with because there’s so may little lines and details you can add to make it unique, and for the leaves I was honestly just doodling and decided to fill in some of the inner details black to make a bolder background. As for the colour of the butterfly I wanted to keep it very low-key as I often see them done with really bright bold colours which is of course beautiful but I thought I’d keep the colours very neutral and pale cool tones to put the focus of beauty on the designs and patterns of the butterfly itself, including the body rather then purely the wings.

 Newsprint paper cut in half = One painting Ink, Water, and Glue  For this Project I decided that I wanted to play into the idolizations of celebrities, including both actors and singers. We have a tendency to put these people on a pedestal as if they are these untouchable gods that are on a whole other level. However the truth is they are humans just like the rest of us that make mistakes, and are no where near perfect. To play on this I decided to use pictures taken on the red carpet as the muse for my first archive (when a celebrity is meant to be looking their best and most beautiful/fancy) and then contrast these images with my second archive consisting of shiny objects - which is what we often treat and look at celebrities as. Perspective Assignment

 I would say I struggled with this assignment a fair amount, and I’m embarrassed to realize how little experience I actually have with perspective. I would think that over the years doing art I would have naturally picked it up, however as it turns out that was not the case because when we first started learning this I could not tell the difference between one, two and three point perspective which feels very silly because it seems like it should be common knowledge for an artist. Having the lines all accurately facing the right direction and tilting just right really messed with my mind but I think I definitely got the hang of it at least a little bit more then I did before we started this assignment, and any progress at all is still progress so I’ll take it! I would like to practice this a lot more on my own time because it was quite eye opening as to how much technicality there is for me to learn, things that could be really helpful to progress  in proportion accuracy and d...

Sketchbook Final

 Done in 8.5 x 11 in Sketchbook This is what I have done in my sketchbook since the midterm evaluation, and although I am happy with the pages that I have, I do wish I had been able to practice more in it. I like that I got to do a lot of  “doodling” as I think that’s my favourite part of art in sketchbooks - it doesn’t have to be perfect or final. You can just draw whatever wherever in any colour to your hearts content and just let the creativity flow. That being said I wish that I had been less busy so that I was able to do more technicality practicing, such as shading and posing because although I love doodling, skill practice is just as important, I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked - what I was hoping to have as I talked about in my midterm sketchbook post.
